Bar Basics

Energy bars are everywhere, with flavors unheard of even a few years ago. Discover bars super high in protein, bars free of allergens, and even bars made with meat! At Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, you’ll find bars in these general categories:

Performance bars are often higher in protein than other bars and are good choices for those who follow an exercise routine. They typically contain 15 to 20 grams protein per bar.

Wellness bars provide nutrition for the occasional snack or even a missed meal. These bars have protein in the 7- to 12-gram range, which will curb hunger pangs; most bars contain 12 to 30 grams carbs.

Lifestyle bars are a good choice for people who have special dietary needs. Opt for a bar with 10 grams or fewer carbs and at least 10 grams protein to help you feel full.

Bar Basics

Energy bars are an excellent choice for a post-workout recovery boost or a simple snack. Get the skinny on a bar that’s right for you.

Healthy Fats
Nuts and seeds contain healthy fats and are an indication of quality ingredients in a bar.

Real ingredients
Search for whole-food ingredients and avoid filler ingredients. If you have food allergies, you can find bars free of gluten, nuts, dairy, or soy.

Protein is Key
The typical performance bar contains 15 to 20 grams of protein. Look for high-quality protein sources such as nuts, egg whites, antibiotic-free meat, or grass-fed whey protein.

Low sugar, not No sugar
If a bar has 0 grams sugar, it’s bound to contain artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols. Instead, look for bars with around 10 grams sugar from natural sources such as whole fruit.

Some fiber, too
Choose bars with about 5 grams fiber to help slow digestion, stabilize blood sugar, and keep you feeling full longer.
