Naturally Dyed Eggs
Have fun using ingredients from your kitchen to naturally dye eggs.

After testing a dozen recipes, we found some colorful standouts. Each recipe, below, yields approximately 1 cup of dye. Soak hard-boiled eggs until they reach the desired color. Soak for 2 hours for pictured results.

Grape juice
Stir 1 Tbsp. distilled white vinegar into 1 cup grape juice.

Beet juice
Stir 1 Tbsp. distilled white vinegar into 1 cup beet juice (found at the Fresh Thyme Farmers Market Juicery).

Red Zinger tea
Bring 1 cup water to boiling. Remove from heat. Add 4 red Zinger tea bags. Steep 5 to 10 minutes. Remove tea bags, pressing excess water out of bags. Stir in 1 Tbsp. distilled white vinegar. Cool.

Turmeric
Bring 1 cup water to boiling. Remove from heat. Stir in 2 Tbsp. ground turmeric and 1 Tbsp. distilled white vinegar. Cool. (For a less marbled effect, strain the mixture before dying the eggs.)

Yellow onion skins
Peel skins from 6 medium yellow onions. Bring 2 cups water and the skins to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes (reducing to about 1 cup). Strain. Stir in 1 Tbsp. distilled white vinegar. Cool.

Red onion skins
Peel skins from 6 medium red onions. Bring 2 cups water and the skins to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes (reducing to about 1 cup). Strain. Stir in 1 Tbsp. distilled white vinegar. Cool.
