Mission 22 Receives $125,000 To Help End Veteran Suicides Through Fresh Thyme Golf Outing

INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 13, 2015) – Fresh Thyme Farmers Market’s first ever charity golf outing proved a monumental success, raising $125,000 in support of Mission 22, an Elder Heart project. With an average of 22 veteran suicides every day, the statistically deadliest battleground for American veterans is at home. Mission 22 and Elder Heart intend to reverse this epidemic by raising awareness and enlisting an army of civilians to show support to veterans and to help put an end to this tragic statistic.

Held in Fishers, Indiana, on August 3rd at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club, Fresh Thyme organized and hosted the scramble-style outing and recruited 75 of their vendors to support this event and Mission 22.

“In all our time running a charity and raising awareness in our communities about veteran suicide, we have never been supported so graciously and honorably,” said Magnus Johnson, President of Mission 22. “The Fresh Thyme event had an important impact on our team and our organization. When we are out fundraising and days are long, we will remember this event and know that we have supporters behind the Mission.”

As part of the fundraiser, Fresh Thyme donated $22,000 as a founding donor toward a planned national monument which will consist of life-size steel silhouettes of 22 soldiers who committed or attempted to commit suicide, placed in a semicircle.

“I have done several other projects with the guys from Elder Heart and Mission 22 and am very passionate about helping those who have served,” said Chris Sherrell, CEO of Fresh Thyme. “It pains me to see the trials and emotional stress that so many veterans encounter upon returning to civilian life, and Fresh Thyme wanted to do whatever we could to offer our support.”

Fresh Thyme is currently developing a program to encourage their stores to hire local veterans and also encourages vendor partners to help make a difference in the lives of these local heroes.
